Why is my skin so pale and how can I make it look more than without having to be in the sun?

My mom ALWAYS tells me my face looks pale or unhealthy. She's right. In fact it looks a shade lighter than the rest of y body. It just looks bad, no color whatsoever. I take a multi-vitamin, but I don't eat healthy- what can I say I'm a typical easymac eating college student. I know it's bad. Could that be part of it? I never ate all that well in highschool when my face was pale. Even when I'm rested and not overtired my skin looks like I haven't gotten sleep, all white and washed out. I've tried sunless tanner and bronzer, and it looks so incredibly obvious that I just can't wear it. Anything against pale skin will look unnatural. Skin cancer runs in my family, so I don't like going out in the sun without sunblock, I also avoid the sun to some degree. If you think this problem is nutritional, do you know what I could take/eat to improve my skin?

Try using a tinted moisturizer with an SPF in it. Drink pleny of water.

Reply:spray tAN
Reply:Try drinking lots of water, and limiting caffeine and sodium. The best diet for your face is lots of good fruits and veggies. A good rule of thumb is to look at the colors on your plate. If you see a bright assortment of colors (and I don't mean jello), then you're getting a decent assortment of vitamins and minerals.

Have you tried the Jergens Natural Glow Face with SPF 20? I am really fair, and that looks pretty natural. It's really gradual, so it doesn't look freakish, and you can stop or apply every 3 days or whatever depth of color you look natural with.
Reply:Eat a variety of fruits and veggies the vitamins in it will bring out your skins natural pigment... try a little sun at a time everyday but apply sunscreen you can still get a tan with some SPF on.
Reply:Having pale skin is sexy! Be what you are! Just be real! That's the best look, cause anything else would look fake.
Reply:I was just going to recommend Jergens tanner for the face too. It works really well and you can get it for fair skin. It doesn't make a big difference in one application so you can keep putting more to get the shade you want. Just make sure you blend into your chin and areas around your face.
Reply:Get a Nice Tinted Moisturiser as it will gradually make your skin darker and in the end make it look more natural...

try Johnsons holiday skin daily face moisturiser, as it is sooooo gradual that it will always be natural,

you could also use a sunscreen with tan attract, (which has some chemical in it witch will halp you tan without exposing your skin) or coco butter, (which protects your skin and gives it a healthy glow)
Reply:i dont tan but i look it buy jergens healthy glow or dove or olay, all work but its lotion with a little bit of self tanner so u gradually get tan just by lotioning up without the sun
Reply:well, you shouldn't always avoid the sun

10 min. sun will get you a hint of a glow, not to mention vitamin D

one news report said some people are getting vitamin D deficiency because they are avoiding the sun

you should go out in the sun for a SHORT period of time
Reply:well carrots are very good for skin, you have to start eating healthier. Try to eat a little bit of soya beans, sprouts, cheese, milk, grains, peas %26amp; beans. And lots of fiber, fruits. The damage of the sun gets worst after 12 pm, try to take a little tan with just 5-10 minutes a day, before that time. And well there are some blush colors that are almost the same color of your skin, try to use some kind of brown-ish color, and try to use a superlight brown gloss to balance it with the blush color.
Reply:I would try eating a more balanced diet. Include more healthy fats like olive oil. If you like tuna, try adding it to your mac and cheese for some protein and omega acids.
Reply:If you always, always, always wear makeup, then your skin might not get a chance to breathe. It needs to be exposed to air. I know a girl who is absolutely beautiful, but when she takes her makeup off, her face looks dead. I just thought I'd mention it in case that's contributing. Also, your diet *does* affect the health of your skin, and your health overall. Taking a multivitamin doesn't replace a healthy diet, so if I were you I'd work on getting more fresh fruits and veggies into your diet. Someone mentioned above, the deeper the color the better. So iceberg lettuce won't do much for you, but fresh spinach (which tastes like lettuce) is spectacular for your health. In the world of fruits do your best to opt for deep red, purple, and blue fruits such as strawberries, blueberries, pomegranate juice, etc. Also - even if skin cancer runs in your family, getting a little bit of natural light is very good for your skin. Every now and then maybe just walk to class in the sun without sunblock or foundation on. Just a tiny bit of exposure can do a lot of good for your overall health. Overexposure to the sun (ie sunbathing) is what causes cancer, not something like walking to your car or to class.

In terms of just your appearance, you can add warmth to your face with a nice bronzer. Use a big powder brush and just sweep it over the bronzer, then lightly dust the high points of your face (cheekbones, chin, nose, forehead) - the spots the sun would hit first. Just do it lightly, in layers, and it'll give you an instant glow that will last all day.

Best of luck to you!
Reply:I don't think it's nutritional, because I eat real healthy but still looked like death. Until I found (this sounds like a commercial) "Olay complete Touch of Sun daily UV facial moisturizer plus a touch of sunless tanner." It's got SPF15 protection, and you'll want to get lighter/medium skin tone. I found it at WalMart a couple weeks ago. Now it's everywhere. You don't need to use much, and it was less than $6. After using it twice a day for only 3-4 days, it gave me a real subtle tan!! It's an off-white tube with a turquoise top, in the Olay section. I think it's the answer to your problem! Good Luck!!
