Male dry skin and blotchy complexion?

Recently, the skin on my face has become slightly blotchy - not noticably, but if I look closely in a mirror I can notice it, around my neck, brow, lips and sometimes my cheeks. It doesn't seem to be any where else, just my face.

I noticed it a while ago it and it has started to bother me now. Also my skin is becoming very dry, which I had assumed was just the start of the cold weather. Finally all of the stuff that I use to shave and wash with seems to have accentuated this issue. I've not changed my diet and I drink a lot of water.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this and how I can solve it? Can anyone recommend any skin care products as I think I might need to change what I use at the moment.

Thanks

Hi, I actually read this really good article about skincare tips for men, you'll find more useful information there I'm sure:

Go to the chemist and ask them .. if it is dry skin get some aqueous cream for over the winter it may just be that the weather is affecting it especially if you work outdoors
Reply:Age and booze?
Reply:ummmmmmm do you touch your face a lot? if so that could be the problem or try using.....i kno its for girls but it works....... "Pond's Dry Skin Cream, the caring classic" (its in a little jar with a blue top in the skin care isle of any grocery store) cuz it won't make your skin greasy but really works

or you could stop shaving and try the scruffy look and see if your skin feels better

if none of these things work, go to a dermatologist and get something prescribed
Reply:You may have some sort of dry skin condition - blotchiness, probably some flaking? Try getting a gentle exfoliator and then use it every four days. Moisturize your face every day and night. There are some good men's products out there as well as some unscented ladies' products. If this doesn't improve your skin in a month then it may be time to visit a dermatologist as you may have excezema or psoriasis (excuse my spelling). If you're not sure what to buy, stop by a spa that does facials or the cosmetics/skincare counter at a department store.
Reply:Try a soap from the dead sea,its very good, you can get it from Boots,in a blue box with a picture of the dead sea on box
Reply:If you are really concerned go to your GP. esp it's sore or spreading. Failing that and the GP says it's normal try the following steps: sounds like a bit of an allergy possibly the perfumes? Try looking for something more gentle ie fragrance free. If you've changed aftershave or use it, don't: go for eau de cologne or eau de toilette and spray a mist over your clothes and hair or chest. Try keeping your face products to a minimum until your skin sorts itself out. SPF's in moiturisers can sometimes cause a reaction so be wary and never apply over the eyes (you'll make them puffy) that goes for any moisturiser unless specifically for the eye area. When you shave use something gentle perhaps an oil may help instead of cream? If you are washing your skin try using a facial wash rather than soap as this can dry out the skin. Let your skin breathe and don't over exfoliate. Men's skin is tougher than women's and has more elasticity but it still needs to be treated gently don't scrub it and pat it dry rather than rubbing it.
Reply:Bio oil it is very good
Reply:Definitely make sure you moisturise, and I recommend trying different shaving products and cleansers until you find one that feels fine. Your current products probably have irritating ingredients in them (such as menthol, peppermint or alcohol), so avoid those ingredients in the future.
Reply:go to your nearest 'Lush' Store they have good stuff, quite pricey but worth every penny.

get some 'Clarins' for Men? my boyfriend uses it and he looks lovely

or that Skin Cocoon stuff from 'Garnier'

i hope that helps :)

Reply:Hi, I think you are on the right track, when you go shopping buy the products that say for a sensitive skin. And when you buy soap try a liquid face wash instead of bar soap as this is very harsh for the face. And don't be bashful go get your self some (male) face moisturiser. Put some on in the morning and in the evening. You can buy some for sensitive skin and make sure it is a light cream nothing heavy that way you can rub it in and it want show. Also heavy creams can clog up your pours too. Good luck. Sheila.
Reply:moisturerize
Reply:exfoliate your skin 2xs a week, and moisturize. drink at least 1.5 litres of h2o a day- sorted
Reply:Dermologica has some really good products, i think they do mens stuff, might be quite expensive thou, worth it. Exfoliate and moisterise lots!
