Canned Salmon - skin & bones?

I've never in my life eaten salmon - fresh or canned, but I just bought a can of it, and am wondering... if all the nutrients are in the ksin and bones - why do all the recipes say to remove skin and bones? Also, if the skin and bones are safe to eat, are the bones very sharp and/or crunchy from canned salmon???? I don't plan on cooking the canned salmon (just want to nake a dip with it), but is it safe to leave in the skin and bones????

I always take out the pieces of skin and most of the bones, they can be a bit crunchy. I just like my salmon better without. If you're making a dip, a little bit of the bone won't even be noticeable. Just make sure you mix it up good before adding the other ingredients. Use a fork, it works best and is easy to clean up.

The bones of salmon are not edible. I don't think you'll find bones in the canned salomon. The skin is ok to eat. Some fish do have edible bones. Canned sardines and herring both do and these fish are high in Omega 3 oil.
Reply:Eat it all. No problem. I like to drink the broth it is canned in.
Reply:It would be safe to leave in the skin and bones, but your dish would not look nearly as nice. Also - the bones are kinda crunchy which would ruin the texture of the dip. ......... For a good recipe - remove all bones and skin - add 2 heaping tablespoons of flour and 1 egg. mash and mix well. Make into patties and fry. mmmmm good stuff.
Reply:The bones are edible, they are really soft. I remove the skin and bones because to me it's just gross.:)
Reply:It's safe - and the bones are soft. They actually are a great calcium source.
