how do we know our skin undertones color? what color foundation is suitable for yellow or pinkish skin undertones? for example: beige or ivory.

depends on the company who makes the makeup.


company a's beige could have pink tone.


company b's beige could have yellow tone.

if you look better in (with no makeup on) purples, pinks, (jewel tones) then you are probably cool.


if you look better in (no makeup on ) army green, orange (earth tones) then you are probably a warm.





when purchasing makeup at the drugstore ask FIRST about their return policy. if they will return with receipt, then buy 2 or 3, take them home to try out (natural light) and take the other(s) back.





if you purchase it from a makeup counter at department store ask about their lighting. there are lights (expensive) that mimic natural lighting, however, nothing is as natural as natural , so ask if you can use a mirror to go outside to check out the color.

Reply:always be sure to get loose powter!! and probly beige, but you can brush it on with a blush brush if its loose powter so you can use different tones on different surfaces of your face, pending on what tone that section of your face is!

try them on the skin of ur forearm ....or u can try it on ur face b4 u buy it and see which one looks more natural and doesnt give u a pale look . also use a blusher to see which one is more suitable.. u can do that by putting half ur face a color and the other half the other color and compare them.

Reply:It depends really on the foundation. Check out your department store and ask one of the ladies there to help you pick your best shade... Pink, Yellow, or Neutral undertones are really hard to tell for people new in this whole make-up thing... Even drugstores that carry make-up have those handy see thru cards that you can use to plave over the inside of your wrist to find a color match. Your best bet, of course, is still seeing the experts at the department stores.

Reply:The best way to find a suitable foundation shade is to try it on you're skin for pink undertones try ivories and beige for yellow or olive. but if unsure got to the cosmetic counter and ask to try it. If the shade is right for you it should blend till you can not tell you have it on the key to good make up is looking natural and just enhancing what you already have.
Reply:Ideally one should test a bit of foundation by applying someon the cheek at the make up counter, to know whether the color blends well into your skin or not. If you cannot find a suitable coulor, then maybe you will have to use some transluscent powder to get the desired result. Sometimes you have to mix 2 or 3 shades to get the right blend.





To bring some glow to a yellowish complexion, try a rose tinted foundation combined with a bit of beige. It really depends on every person's skin texture and coloring. You would have to sample many brands and shades till you find the one which suits you the best.

Reply:1.) You can pinch the skin at your elbow and if it turns yellowish right after you let go you have warm skin, if it turns bluish or pinkish you have cool skin. 2.) I have always heard to wear the opposite shade of your skin tone. Ex. I have cool, pinkish skin and I wear a makeup w/ a a yellowish tint. this balances out your skin so the pink or yellow is not over whellming. 3.) Biege is more pinkish, Ivory is more yellowish
