Skin breakout problems--acne?

I recently got a tattoo on my arm filled in. It was just black ink, nothing special. About a week after I got it filled, my skin started to break out in some kind of pimples. I originally thought it was the A%26amp;D ointment I put on it, but it spread to a much larger area. I think it is worth taking note that the breakout occurred in the area that my skin was cleaned with the alcohol or cleansing solution. The pimples have been fairly persistent for about three weeks now; what do I do?

This happened to some of my friends when they get ink done. It's from when the tattoo artist dry shaves your arm before tattooing it....and puttin the A+D ointment on it cause the pores to clog and hence you get those bumps.

You should be ok but if its painful swollen and seems infected you may wanna go to a doctor to check it out, tell them where you went to get the tattoo done....the tattoo artist should've given you an aftercare sheet that has the shop's number and address and the number of your local health department.

That sounds serious you should GO TO THE DOCTOR That is a long time it sounds like you have a allergic reaction it might be dangerous if allowed to continue
Reply:I would definetly ask your doctor what would be best. I had a similar reaction when I got my first tattoo, but it occured where I had taped plastic wrap over it because I was afraid of infection. I did use A%26amp;D ointment, but I didn't think it was from that. As soon as I let it breathe for awhile the bumps went away.
Reply:I think the other answers might be a little alarmist. Note I say might; we're not doctors here (as far as I know), and we have no pictures.

It could be folliculitis. The artist shaved the area, right? That's what they do with me, and then whatever else gets applied (Vaseline, etc). It's possible the pores got clogged and gave you this reaction, although I'll admit this kind of delay seems odd.

It might be worth seeing the doctor, but it's probably fastest to check with the artist first and see what s/he says. It always seems to take me 2-3 weeks to see my doctor for non-critical stuff. Barring lack of mention of pus filled sores, muscle cramps, streaks in the skin, fever, etc... I think they'll probably label this the same.
